Year 12 Final Farewell Parent Network Dinner - Friday 24 August

Friday 24 August 2018 at 6.30pm at the Chelsea Hotel, 14 Railway Street, Chatswood

After 6 years at CHS, this will be our last parent network dinner for parents and students of Class 2018.

I still can recall fondly of our very first social parent network evening at Jo Alani’s house and since then we all have seen familiar faces at each function and also met new ones along the way.

I hope you can make the effort as it will be our very last parent network social and remember to bring along your year 12 student so they can too mingle with their peers as it is after HSC trials !!

Please RSVP by Monday 20 August 2018 to Joanne Chew at .

Digital Distractions & Cybersafety resources

Digital distractions in 21stC education” is a hot topic in the media at the moment and it was a special focus of P&C's June meeting. Our Principal and about 30 parents joined an interactive discussion, sharing concerns & ideas on how to help effectively manage technology in school. Many thanks to Rochelle Wilkinson for presenting some helpful websites for parents and progress results from her current CHS survey on Cyberbullying.

The parent resource page has links to useful information sheets - Cybersafety Fact sheet, Mobile Phone contract and Screen Smart Fact Sheet.

Digital Distractions & Education in the 21stC

Come along to a special discussion between CHS parents and our Principal.

  • What is the place of technology in today’s classroom?
  • Are you concerned technology is distracting your child at home & school?
  • How can technology be managed effectively and harnessed for good educational outcomes?

Come along to this week’s P&C meeting, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the dialogue on technology in education in the 21stC and how to deal with digital distractions.

David Osland (Principal) is keen to hear your thoughts on this vitally important subject. He will be joined by another 2 of CHS’s teachers Rochelle Wilkinson and Courtney Angus to help shape thinking and discussion. This special P&C event follows-up some parent concerns earlier in the year and will be the primary focus of the P&C meeting.

  • When: Thursday June 14
  • Time: 7.30pm to approx. 8.30pm
  • Where: CHS Learning Space (@bottom of quadrangle)

All CHS parents and carers are welcome.

Leadership Camp 2018

Leadership Camp in an annual event run by the prefect team for younger students interested in developing their leadership skills and meet new people from other years. We had such an amazing time this year with prefects running seminars on teamwork, organisation, ingenuity, flexibility, motivation, public speaking, and people skills. We also had the pleasure of hearing from two guest speakers, Viriya Chittasy and Ming Long and had lots of fun dressing up for the trivia night themed "heroes and villains". The pink team came out on top as the best team of camp with the most points and enthusiasm, but everyone had an amazing time. The prefects particularly learnt a lot about leadership through organising and running the camp. Thank you to the P&C for your financial contributions, they really paid off! (pun intended)

Chatswood Education Precinct - Proposal for redevelopment of high school

You may be aware the State Government has committed over $4 billion to upgrade public schools in NSW over the next 4 years. The redevelopment of Chatswood Public School has already been announced by the NSW Government.

In March 2018 School Infrastructure NSW, part of the NSW Department of Education, confirmed to the CHS P&C that planning is underway to investigate an option to redevelop Chatswood school (covering both public and high) infrastructure to meet anticipated future growth. The Department is in the process of finalising the proposal and expects to commence public engagement with school communities by mid-year assuming these plans are approved by NSW Treasury.

The CHS P&C are greatly encouraged by the inclusion of the high school in the much needed plans to redevelop the Chatswood Education Precinct. P&Cs from both public and high schools are collaborating closely on this matter.

Like our neighbouring public school, the high school also suffers from outdated facilities and overcrowding. Chatswood High School now has 11 demountable classrooms on-site to accommodate the growth in the number of high school students. This total swells to over 30 demountable classrooms when the Intensive English Centre and the Public School’s Bush Campus are included.

To support the future learning needs of our high school, students and teachers deserve new specialist facilities. Over recent years there has been a stop/start approach to upgrading Chatswood school facilities, so we are encouraged by a longer term and whole of precinct approach to provide learning spaces and facilities in this proposed redevelopment of both schools.
We welcome the use of a Project Reference Group which includes Principals and P&C representatives from both schools. We also look forward to widespread community consultation on this much needed redevelopment commencing as soon as possible.
Our Regional Director of public schools Ms Sue Low welcomes any queries you may have on this proposal. She has kindly provided the following email address - .

We ask for your positive support to encourage this important development proposal.
