Proposed change to CHS Canteen operator in 2018


Chatswood High School P&C: Canteen Operations in 2018.

Over the past 8 years, the Chatswood High School (CHS) Canteen has been operated by the CHS P&C.

Recently the Executive of the P&C has undertaken a review of canteen operations following concerns about its financial results. As a result of this review, the Executive is recommending that the P&C will discontinue operating the canteen from 2018.

Please note - a canteen will continue to operate on-site at CHS in 2018. However, the P&C will no-longer be responsible for its operations. Instead, the school administration will publicly tender for an external operator to run the CHS canteen; with the new operator expected to commence operating in Term 1, 2018.

  • The P&C would like to thank the Canteen manager and staff for their hard work in providing nutritious and healthy food to our students, and loyal service in maintaining high operating standards of health and safety since the canteen was opened by the P&C in late 2009.

This decision has not been taken lightly and reflects the current operating model and financial position of the canteen. The current staff of the canteen have already been briefed on the impact of this proposed change.

  • For clarity, there is NO other change to current P&C activities or operations in 2018. In particular, the CHS Uniform shop is NOT impacted and will continue to operate as it is currently.

What happens next?

  • The CHS P&C will hold an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, October 19 at 7.30pm in the IEC common room to vote on the following proposal:

“The CHS P&C Executive proposes that as a result of financial losses over the past 4 years, the CHS P&C will no-longer operate the CHS canteen from the end of term 4, 2017.“

  • To be able to vote on this proposal on October 19, you must be:

A 2017 financial member of the CHS P&C and attend (in person) the extraordinary P&C meeting on October 19th (commencing at 7.30pm in the Intensive English Centre (IEC) Common Room at CHS). This means you have attended a P&C meeting during 2017, paid the $2 membership fee and have had your name recorded in the 2017 membership register.

  • If you are not currently a 2017 financial member and wish to vote-

You must come along to the next General P&C meeting on Thursday, 12 October, 2017 and pay your $2 to join. This meeting will commence at 7.30pm in the IEC Common Room.

And you must attend (in person) the extraordinary meeting the following week – 19 October, 2017 (also commencing at 7.30pm in the IEC Common Room).
