P&C Meeting Summaries

September 2012 P&C Meeting Summary

At the September meeting, members agreed to

  • Present a cheque for $50,000 to Sue Low to be spent on the acquisition of interactive whiteboards. This money represents the amount raised from parent contributions so far this year. The P&C's Strategic Plan for 2013 includes upgrading technology at CHS and part of this upgrade is to ensure that there is an interactive whiteboard in every classroom.
  • Sign a letter composed by the Northern Sydney Regional Council of P&C to local state members for the lower and mid north shore which argues that due to increased numbers at all north shore public schools
    •  "There is an urgent need to:
    1. Provide emergency capital works funding for new buildings in our schools, as well as short to medium term plans to expand some existing school sites and open new sites; and
    2. Amend planning legislation so schools are classified as 'essential infrastructure', and capacity in local public schools must be considered for the Metro Strategy and when approving any new development."
  • Approve $2760.00 for payment to GJ's Design for the landscaping plans and designs for the area under the K block aka 'the dustbowl' or 'the void'. The next step will be to apply for a funding grant to progress this building project.

  • Locker Scheme: The P&C thanked Claerwen Armstrong for the energy and commitment she bought to setting up the locker scheme for Year 7 students. Unfortunately, Claerwen is unable to continue in this role in 2013 but due to her efforts and support from Liz Sutcliffe in the school office, the scheme is fantastically well organised and runs smoothly. The role of overseeing the scheme involves attendance at the school on Year 7 Orientation Day and one day at the end of 2013. If you are willing to take on this role for 2013 please advise via email

  • World Teachers' Day morning tea will be provided by the P&C again this year as a collective thank you to the fabulous work of the teachers at CHS. Please post your messages of thank you and encouragement to the teachers via the website www.chspandc.org.au

Parent contributions are a vital source of funds for providing the facilities that students need at CHS. The General Contribution, at its current rate represents less than $1 per day for each day a student attends school. The Building Fund Contribution is fully tax deductible. If you have not paid your parent contributions for 2013 please consider doing so as soon as possible. This will enable the P&C to continue to assist the staff at CHS to provide the best possible education for all our children. If you would like to make a greater contribution than what is requested please do not hesitate to do so-keep in mind how much you would be paying for your child's education if a quality public education system ceased to exist.

Next P&C Meeting: Special Marnie Meeting: Tuesday 9 October 2012 @ 7.30pm in the Learning Space
